Across Every Team, Studio, and Project
When we started building what would become TUSKION and its network of studios, we made a deliberate choice — one that shapes everything we do: we're remote-first.
Not “remote-friendly.”
Not “remote for now.”
Remote-first — by design, and by belief.
This decision isn’t just about flexibility. It’s foundational to how we work, who we work with, and the future we’re building across all our companies — from GhostJam Games to the teams we haven’t announced yet.
Built Around People, Not Places
At the heart of this decision is a simple idea: great work isn’t limited by geography.
The creative industry has long been tied to cities and studios — to physical spaces that often limit who gets to participate. By going remote-first, we open our doors to talent everywhere. The best person for the job might be in New Zealand, Toronto, Bristol, or somewhere we’ve never heard of — and that’s exactly who we want on our teams.
We’re not building a headquarters.
We’re building a network — one where trust, clarity, and shared purpose matter more than zip codes.
Creative Work Needs Creative Space
We build games. We build software. We build ideas that require time, deep thought, and the ability to focus.
Remote work gives our people the space to do their best work — whether that’s in the quiet of a home office, while traveling, or working odd hours to accommodate their energy and life. We don’t believe creativity fits neatly into 9–5 schedules and daily standups. We believe in respecting the rhythms of the people we work with.
Collaboration, Reimagined
Remote-first doesn’t mean disconnected. It means intentional.
We’ve built our workflows to be asynchronous where it makes sense, and synchronous where it matters. We keep meetings lean and purposeful. We use tools like Discord, GitHub, shared docs, and lightweight project tracking to stay aligned. And we constantly iterate on how we communicate — because being remote doesn’t mean going it alone.
Our teams talk daily, share wins and prototypes in real time, and support one another across time zones. We believe you can build deep culture and tight collaboration without being in the same room — if you’re thoughtful about how.
Flexibility Cuts Both Ways
That said, we also understand that some people work better in an office environment — with structure, social energy, and fewer distractions.
For those team members, we’re open to supporting office space where it makes sense. Whether it’s a shared co-working spot, a dedicated desk, or a small studio setup — we’re happy to help make that happen. What we won’t do is mandate it. No one will ever be required to commute just to be “seen.”
This is about choice — and making sure everyone can do their best work in the environment that supports them.
A More Inclusive Future
Being remote-first helps us build companies that are more inclusive and resilient.
It allows people to work without uprooting their lives. It supports those who can’t (or don’t want to) live in high-cost urban centers. It opens the door for caregivers, international collaborators, and voices from underrepresented regions and backgrounds.
This model lets us find and support incredible people who might be overlooked in a more traditional setup — and that diversity strengthens everything we make.
The Long View
This isn’t a temporary strategy. It’s the backbone of how we operate — now and in the future.
As we grow our studios, launch new projects, and eventually expand into publishing and more, the remote-first model will continue to guide our decisions. We’ll meet in person when it’s meaningful. We’ll support team retreats and conferences when they enrich our work. And we’ll continue to invest in tools and culture that make distance a strength, not a weakness.
In Short
We’re remote-first because we believe talent is everywhere, and that work should adapt to people — not the other way around.
We’re building something ambitious, and that requires the freedom, flexibility, and focus that remote-first work allows. It’s not always easy. It demands discipline, communication, and trust. But we believe it’s the right way forward — not just for us, but for the kind of companies we want to be.
Remote by default.
Office if you want it.
Always people-first.
